| Copyright © 2000 | Instructions: You have a choice of three balls. A heavy one inch steel ball, a light one inch acrylic ball, and a large 1.75 inch white ball. Use the two small balls to show that the height is independent of the mass. The white ball, since it is larger effectively has a smaller radius around the loop and can be launched about 3 cm lower than the small balls. There is a fair amount of friction. Maybe a 25% of the energy is lost to friction. Without spinning the h = 5/2 r. With spinning h = 27/10 r. |
