This devise can show the sunspots indirectly, saftely and in real time. ASU copyright The instructions are printed on the Sunspotter. ASU copyright After removing the cover unscrew the triangular structure from the cradle. ASU copyright A peg casts a shadow. Rough alignment comes from rotating in the cradle and turning the Sunspotter until the shadow is gone. ASU copyright Two holes in the board next to the lens allows rays of light through. There are two white circles that are targets for these rays. When they are in the circle the final alignment comes from centering the image on the paper. ASU copyright To put away screw the triangular device back on the cradle and replace the cover. ASU copyright

| Purpose: To view and study the behavior of sun spots. The rotation of the sun could be measure directly. The rotation of the Sun about its axis is 25 days at the equator and 36 days about the poles. The eleven year minimum occurs in 2006 - 2007. | ||||

| Copyright © 2000 | Instructions: 1 Remove the latch so that the triangular structure moves freely. 2 There are two holes and a peg to help you align the Sunspotter. Rotate in the cradle and turn so that the peg casts no shadow. 3 Light passes through the two holes and should hit two target circles. The device should be aligned now. 4 Paper is held by a clip. The Sun could be traced onto this paper. 5 Use the link to see todays sunspots as viewed by the SOHO satelite. |
