    Let the hoop roll on the table. Note where it comes to rest and use this orientation for placing the hoop on the bottle. Next balance the pen. This takes some practice. Make sure the pen is vertical. Quickly grab the hoop with a horizontal swing.

Demonstrates inertia of rest using a pen carefully balanced on a hoop, that is balanced on a Coca-Cola bottle.

Instructions: 

A pen is balanced on a hoop which in turn is balanced on a Coke bottle. Quickly remove the hoop by the leading side and the pen will fall straight down into the bottle. Practice this one.

Purpose: 
Demonstrates part of Newton's 1st Law of Inertia.
Parts: 

Pen, acrylic hoop, and Coca-Cola bottle.
