This RLC circuit allows the inductance to be varied by inserting an iron core. Capacitance is .01 mf, frequency 450 Hz, and R is 80 ohms. The LCR are in series and the oscilloscope is parallel across the capacitor. Capacitor is hooked to ground.

Set frequency to 2300 Hz resistance to 300 ohm. The inductance has a range of 6 mH when the iron core is out to 38 mH when it is inserted. The Capacitance has a range of 140 to 640 pF. This is maximum range for C and minimum range for L. The resistance is 10 ohms.

Capacitance is maximum range and inductance is at a minimuml range. The resistance was raised to 30 kilo ohms.

Capacitance is minimum range and inductance is a maximum range.
Description:

A square wave source causes ringing in an LCR circuit. The capacitor and inductor can be varied separately.

Instructions:

Set the function generator to square wave and 2300Hz.
Set resistance to 100 ohms.

To switch from the variable C to the variable L disconnect the 2 BNC to RCA splitters from channel 1 and 2 on the oscilloscope and then connect the other 2 BNC to RCA splitters from the other circuit.

The oscilloscope sometimes has a floating ground problem. This can be avoided by placing the component being measured, capacitor in this case, to the ground of the source, function generator here.

Purpose:
As the C and L vary the frequency of the ringing varies.
