Spring Coupled Pendula

Four physical pendula are coupled by three springs. Energy is transferred from one pendulum to another.

Torsion pendulum: moment of inertia on the period

The inertia of many shapes can be determined on the torsion pendulum.

Various combinations of masses and moments of inertia can be placed on the platform to study the effect of changing the moment of inertia on the period of rotational SHM. This one is adequate for quantitative measurements.

Wilberforce pendulum

The motion sensor and the laser switch are mounted at the bottom.

Energy transfers between vertical and torsional modes.

Coupled pendula

This is not our pendulum but one belonging to A. J. Sievers at Cornell Universit

Two pendula are coupled by a plastic tube. Be sure to clamp or hold frame rigidly.

Chaotic Pendulum, Magnetic Version

Catalog:
3A95.52
Location:
Ba2
A randomly oscillating magnetic pendulum is used to study chaos. The magnets can be moved about or their polarity reversed by flipping them over or can be made stronger by stacking them. A magnet at the end of a rod bounces chaotically across magnets.
