Attach an electroscope to one end of a metal rod. Bring a charged rod near the opposite end and the electroscope will deflect showing that charges will move through a conductor. Replace the metal rod with an acrylic one and the electroscope will not deflect when a charged rod is brought near the opposite end. A "pith" ball may be used instead of the electroscope.
