The Wilberforce pendulum has the brass weights removed here and the rotational inertia is adjusted with the plastic masses on the threaded rod.
The motion sensor and the laser switch are mounted at the bottom.
The top assembly includes a lecture laser, a force sensor. The force sensor must be fastened to the spring so that it has no play. Any slack energy taken from here is removed from the Wiberforce pendulum's ability to twist.

The graph shows the vertical motion and the force are maximum at the same time. The angular velocity of the Wilberforce pendulum is greatest when the motion of the spring is at a minimum.
