Magnetic Force Accelerator

Catalog:
5H40.31
Location:
Cd1
A current-carrying conductor in a uniform magnetic field experiences a force that is made evident by the conductors rolling along the rails of the apparatus.

Magnetic Beans

A compass is placed on top of the can while the can is turned.

Homopolar Motor

The screw and the magnet spins rapidly when the wire touches the neodymium magne

The electric current produced by the battery moves radially through the magnet which has a magnetic field along its longitudinal axis. The resulting Lorentz force in the tangential direction produces a torque in the magnet making the magnet with the attached screw to rotate. In contrast to other electrical motors, both the orientation and magnitude of the magnetic field and the electric current do not change.

Magnet and iron filings

The iron filings are kept in the shaker bottles. The smaller bottle has a finer

Used with specially prepared overhead projectors, magnetic field lines are shown by sprinkling iron filings on top of glass plates which have magnets in various configurations attached underneath.

Levitation Using Permanent Magnets

The many parts to the Levitron demo are shown here.
Catalog:
5H20.20C
Location:
Cc4
A spinning magnet made by Levitron levitates over a permanent magnet.

Field of a Toroid

Iron filings clearly show students the magnetic field created by a toroid.
Catalog:
5H15.50
Location:
Cc3
Iron filings show the field of a toroid which is wound through a sheet of Plexiglas.

Robby the Seal

The seal can either balance the ball on its nose or when it approaches the ball
