Variable Capacitor

The capacitance of a variable capacitor can be adjusted manually (or electronically), instead of being fixed. The capacitor consists of two sets of metal plates -- one set can rotate and the other set is fixed in place. The rotation changes the area of overlap between the two sets of plates, which increases the capacitance.
